*Mod - Edited for clarity*

Sorry for posting twice in a row but i just noticed this...
Personally, i wouldn't recommend vans for freerunning. Most skateboarding shoes are flat bottomed so that nailing tricks are easier. For freeruinning, however, you would need running shoes because with flat shoes, theres a much greater danger of landing the wrong way and breaking your ankle when you land on a narrow rail or something. Also, running shoes are usually more grippy and they allow for better impact and reduced ankle-restriction.
For freerunning i would reccomend Nike SHox but if you're like me and you outgrow your shoes in a month, i think any addidas, reebok or nike shoe would work. The only things you would have to check for are inner padding, comfort, grippy soles and of course, style.

Hey guys, im living in Dubai for a few months and I was looking for something else to do besides work. Normally im jumping off stuff with a snowboard strapped to my feet but because i didnt bring my gear with me, and the rental gear at the indoor place is crap, I need another way to get a rush. Never tried parkour before but always thought it would be fun.
Next time theres something planned and you dont mind helpin out a noob, id be keen as mustard to come along!

THe great thing about aprkour is that you odnt have to wait. YOu dont have to buy anything much and you can just get up and go...
JUst get out of your house and run around a little. Before you know it, youll be a pro.
By the way just a comment but please dont call yourself a noob. Freerunning just began a couple of years ago so pretty much everyone is new to the sport. Here in the Uae, the scene has just started and so theres very little chance of any one having freerunned (uhh is that right?) for more than a year or 2.

I have to disagree PK_AD.. You need to be careful about just "getting up and going" because if you don't know what you're doing you could seriously hurt yourself. Conditioning your body for parkour isn't something that takes a couple of days..

However!! as long as you stay safe with your training and don't try anything stupid there's no reason why you can't start practicing by yourself. I find it's better to have a training partner because you can discuss what you might be doing wrong if you can't nail a certain technique. So like PK_AD said.. get up and go try some parkour

And to add to what's already been said, don't call yourself a noob, true you might be new to parkour or freerunning but everyone starts somewhere and as long as you have a positive attitude nobody will look down on you or think bad of you because you can't do a double kong in your first few months of training. Everyone learns at their own pace.

I still cant nail a double kong so i always sub with a walking one...
What you say is true but theres just a comment i have to make. Its true that you should stay safe; true that training with a partner is sometimes better; and true that you can build up muscle conditioning in a day
but...
You have to start somewhere. The first traceurs didnt have help. They learned through trail and error. I learned that way too.
Sure i had my bad days and sure i got hurt but that is alway worth the satisfaction of accomplishment and the physical benefits. However, when i said get up and go, i didnt mean jump out of your second story window. What i meant was to start. Start with a small jump and work your way up. Start with an easy vault and work your way up.
In parkour, it is good to have a trainer but it is also good to put yourself out there and try it yourself.

And if anyone is wondering, personally, i started with a half meter jump. It seemed puny, but it taught me a HUGE amount about how i jump and how i land.

Oh, and one more thing.
One of the fundamentals of parkour is being able to judge your limits so this would probably be the best place to start your training...
